Someone tried to pay $15,000 for a bag of air from Kobe Bryant’s final NBA game

I don’t understand sports memorabilia collecting. We all are fans of different things, so the value is all over the place and feels like an extremely questionable investment. I know some people collect just because they like the stuff – but for the person who tried to spend $15,000 on a bag of air there’s no way they saw that as anything other than an investment they could flip later. Or they just had too much wine and stumbled around eBay for a while (looking at you, mom).

After Kobe Bryant’s final NBA game, someone posted a Ziploc bag to eBay that allegedly contained air from Staples Center. That’s all. Nothing more. Not like Kobe farted into the bag or graced it with his lips to blow a breath into the super trusty and unlikely to be punctured container. It was just air, from a stadium, full of rowdy fans watching a dude play a game for the last time.

And yet, it took off. Why? How? Who? Won’t someone think of the children?
