“MSNBC host Chuck Todd began today’s broadcast of MTP Daily by hitting on one of his favorite subjects — bemoaning both sides.
In his opening monologue, Todd noted that leaders in Washington learned in the past few weeks that “you cannot govern alone” before explaining that this is a choice that vulnerable Democratic senators facing re-election now have to face making a deal with Trump or not.
“That is the bigger story brewing here on both sides,” Todd said, before snarking about how some folks would react to that phrase. “Cue the both siderisms. We know you like to do that on Twitter.”
He added, “If our leaders learned anything else in the last few weeks it’s that there is a major battle in 2018 that could purge each party of its more moderate governing wing or what’s left of it.”
The Meet the Press host went on to highlight that both the GOP and Democratic Party are pushing for more purity in ideology and policy stances, noting that some moderate Republicans have decided to retire in 2018 rather than run again.
After pointing out that the base GOP will skewer anyone who criticizes the president while the Democrats will do the same to those who hedge on saying Trump should be impeached, Todd concluded by making this observation:”
